Thanks For Visiting!

To tell you a little about me…
I was born and raised in Powell River, British Columbia, at the northern tip of the Sunshine Coast. My parents and many of my relatives still live there, so I head up there quite often to visit. A few hours of driving + a couple of ferry rides, and you are far away from the city, in a secluded, yet scenic, little coastal town with plenty of fresh lakes, hiking trails, salt water fishing, and the most beautiful sunsets in the world (in my humble opinion).
A couple of years ago, after completing my studies at Camosun College in Victoria, I packed up my things and flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to seek out a new adventure. From there, I started working as a stewardess on Private and Charter Motor Yachts. I did this for about 4 years, traveling the world, following the sun as much as possible, and earning my keep by catering to some very high-end clientèle.
I made my triumphant return to Vancouver in December of 2006, to be closer to my family and friends, and to find a new career in Marketing. For the past couple of years, I have been gaining valuable work experience, in both conventional and new media marketing – everything from direct mail and tradeshow coordination, to blogging, managing social media accounts, and running online contests.
Currently, I keep myself busy doing the odd bit of freelance marketing and public relations for Wesley Behan, Tell Ten Friends, and Alex Lee PR. I have also recently joined the Owls at HootSuite, as part of their marketing team. I am stoked to be a part of this amazing company, disrupting life as we know it in the digital world.
I may not have followed the crowd, or taken the same professional route as most people, but I wouldn’t trade my past experiences for anything. I am unique, to say the least, and I have a lot to tell you.
This blog is where I tell my travel stories, and any other past, present, and upcoming happenings in my life.

Hi, Janis
I was led to your first marathon log by typing “can’t even walk after my long run” after I ran my PR 8 mile and felt exhausted and exactly “can’t even walk after…”. Great personal story about your first marathon! Looking forward to running my first half-marathon sometimes next year.
Keep up the great running!
Thanks for the comment, Jiang, and good luck on your half marathon!
